North End Players wins Grand Marshal’s Award at Ridgefield Parade << More Info
>>
July 3, 2010, On a sunny, Saturday morning, near 5000 parade-goers watched as the
patriotically-clad white truck with trailer rolled by. North End Players entered
into the Ridgefield, WA 4th of July Parade in hope of some much-needed publicity
and got much, much more.
With design help from Sue Harris and her father, Gary Westbo of Best-Way Trucking,
for providing transportation; North End Players won the Grand Marshal’s Award for
favorite float. The theme at this year’s parade was “Show your Red, White and Blue
by going Green!” which NEP did in fine fashion.
Taking on a 40’s theme, North End Players decorated their float as a typical World War II - era living room, complete with kids and parents and a radio playing era-appropriate music provided by Lucas and Cassie Thompson.
The float was finished with WWII propaganda posters that had been modified to fit the theme of the parade. Uncle Sam exclaiming, “I want YOU to Recycle”, and Rosie the Riveter knowing, “We Can Do It!” kept the audience reading the float as it rolled by.
As an added treat, Cody Walker strolled behind with 600 lollipops to distribute to the kids.
“It was the most fun I’d had at a parade in a long time!” stated Cassie Thompson, Board Member and co-chair of the parade committee.
It was estimated that there was 50 floats in the adult-designed category that North End Players won the award.
In attendance was: Sue Harris, Gary Westbo, Jimmy Harris, Amy Harris, Cassie Thompson, Lucas Thompson, Debbie Larsen-Walker, Cody Walker & Ron Jorgensen.
