ABOUT US &

ALBERT MANN

North end players: a history

North End Players has been giving North Portland continuous theater experiences for more than 40 years. Founded in 1969 by Albert Mann, North End Players was and continues to be an all-volunteer theater. As a non-profit organization, proceeds are distributed between St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and The William Temple House.

North End Players has presented over 100 live theater productions since its inception. These productions have featured many of the hit plays of the 30’s through the 90’s. Performed in The Bert Mann Theater, located directly under St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Mr. Mann was Managing Director of the company until the year 2000 when resigned his position and turned the reigns over to Sally Skelding.

North End Players presents 3-4 live theater productions per season, with production runs of 2-3 weekends.

New to 2010, North End Players introduces their Reader’s Theater productions. These “one-night-only” productions are donation only and usually feature short full-length, or one-act plays that are read directly from the script of some of North End Player’s ensemble.

Mr. Mann founded this North Portland Community Theater Company in 1969 when he brought his extensive theater knowledge and experience with him from Canada. His career began in the late 40’s with scholarships to the Montreal Repertory Theater - School of Theater where he learned all aspects of production both on and off stage.
